There You Go Again

MP3 (Right-click to download)

There you are with your hope and love
Your little kind ways, your gentleness
Humility that turns my head
You stoop and smile at need
And pray for an enemy

I notice when your right hand hides
The good it does from the left hand
And I see you wrestling on your knees
And I know the pain that you feel

There, there you go again
You’re being beautiful again
You’re being beautiful again

There you are with your faith and trust
You hard work, your sacrifice
You mourn and grieve
And take my breath away
With your spiritual poverty

I see your hunger and your thirst
For righteousness
See the dirt under your nails
And oh, how tired you look tonight

There, there you go again
You’re being beautiful again
You’re being beautiful again

Very pleasant, with some nice harmonies. I can imagine this being performed by The Proclaimers! You might consider giving it a proper ending instead of just fading away at the end.

Really nice song, Paul. I love the literary conceit of God speaking to us this way. It took me till the second verse to get it, and it was a pleasant surprise when I finally did. The song is well worth a prayer time!

Just a theological question: Are we being “ugly” when we sin? Or does God continue to see the beauty in us even though it is dimmed to our eyes? This, to me, points to the heart of divine mercy.
